Amanda mokoena

Amanda Mokoena is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands. She holds a Master of Philosophy in African Studies (with distinction) from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Amanda’s Masters’ dissertation studied water inequality in different urban forms within the township of Khayelitsha, South Africa, and explored a different form of the African city in the global water governance discourse. Her current research explores the spatial and socio-political formations and structures that sustain inequality in water access in the settlements directly serviced by the Buffalo River in East London, South Africa, and how the river plays a role in affirming and denying what it means to be ‘urban’.
